Description

Two postcards, a signed (1981) and the other completely written (1974) by Emilio Vedova, directed to his friend Sandro Baccara. Also attached a copy of a letter by the artist for the same man. Presented in a picture frame with glass.

Artist: Emilio Vedova (1919-2006)

Born in Venice in 1919 into a family of craftsmen-workers, he began working as a self-taught artist in the 1930s. In 1942 he joined the anti-novecentist movement Corrente. An anti-fascist, he participated between 1944 and 1945 in the Resistance and in 1946, in Milan, he was one of the signatories of the manifesto "Beyond Guernica". In the same year he was one of the founders of the New Italian Secession which later became Fronte Nuovo delle Arti. He began exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions since the forties, soon gaining international fame; The exhibition dedicated to him at the Catherine Viviano Gallery in New York dates back to 1951. Starting from that of 1948, he participates in various editions of the Venice Biennale, an event where in 1952 a personal room is dedicated to him, in 1960 he receives the Grand Prix for painting and in 1997 the Golden Lion for his career. In 1954, at the II Biennial of São Paulo, he won the prize that would allow him to spend three months in Brazil, and in 1956 he received the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation Award for Italy. In 1955 he was invited to Kassel for “documenta 1”, he participated in “II. documenta”, in 1964 for “documenta III” he presented the Absurdes Berliner Tagebuch '64 and returned again to Kassel in 1982 for “documenta 7”. Throughout his life he passionately dedicated himself to teaching, holding lectures in various American universities and taking courses at the Internationale Sommerakademie für Bildende Kunst in Salzburg and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice.
