By purchasing from the Di Mano in Mano catalogue, you help support a conscious business model that is attentive to the environment and to people, with governance policies based on a sustainable economic approach.
The commercial dimension of our company fuels a virtuous cycle that creates new jobs, introduces new technologies to reduce environmental impact, and offers new training opportunities.
ENVIRONMENT
Since its establishment in 1999, Di Mano in Mano has built every activity and service around the principles of reuse and recycling—first through its clearance operations and later through the sale of pre-owned furniture. Every item that enters our facilities is carefully assessed, restored, and directed to the most suitable of our many online and offline sales channels.
Waste materials, which account for only 20% of the items coming from our clearance operations, are sorted and disposed of at dedicated, fee-based facilities.
We have implemented an energy plan based entirely on renewable sources. Some of the roofs at our Cambiago site currently host several hundred photovoltaic panels, a number that will continue to grow. Our goal for 2024 is to achieve full self-sufficiency in terms of electricity needs. In addition, LED lighting has been adopted, reducing electricity consumption for lighting by 50%.
Since 2023, we have introduced water filtration systems and provided each employee with a customizable reusable bottle, completely eliminating the use of plastic water bottles.
PEOPLE / SOCIAL
Di Mano in Mano is not a Social Enterprise and does not belong to the third sector. Our social commitment—expressed through the hosting of work placement programs (over eight hundred since the beginning of our activity)—is therefore a choice, not an obligation. Over the years, we have built a strong network of relationships with local institutions such as Social Services, the Ministry of Justice, and local health authorities (ASL). Together, we develop tailored pathways that give vulnerable individuals the opportunity to reintegrate into the community through work.
Equally important is the Cooperative’s charter, which guarantees flexible working hours, corporate welfare, and even a solidarity fund to which everyone can voluntarily contribute and draw upon when needed.
Finally, Di Mano in Mano views young people as a valuable resource for the community and invests in enriching their work experience through training opportunities and professional development paths.
GOVERNANCE
The Di Mano in Mano business model is unique of its kind, remaining true to its original—and revolutionary—idea of finding new ways to improve quality of life. Equal pay proportional to the number of hours worked, along with the indivisibility of profits—principles that have defined members’ working relationships since the very beginning—underscore Di Mano in Mano’s commitment to continuing in a spirit of shared work, with respect for people, the community, and the environment.
Di Mano in Mano’s governance systems are structured in a participatory way, through meetings and assemblies, and through transparent and well-developed internal communication systems.
