Artist: Giovanni Lomi (1889-1969)

Born in Livorno in 1889, Giovanni Lomi was initiated into painting by Adolfo Tommasi and was then part of the Labronico Group for many years, participating in various editions of the Venice Biennale and the Roman Quadrennial. He did not come from a wealthy family, but he still knew how to carve out a leading role in the Livorno art scene, thanks also to the singing qualities that made him a decent baritone. This passion for opera and the numerous frequentations of the environment in question influenced his painting, also drawing inspirations and cultural motifs from this world. His pictorial activity was mainly devoted to figures and landscapes. Growing up in the countryside, he developed a love for nature and animals, but it was above all the suggestive seascapes with pearly reflections that were successful. In his production, in addition to the canvases, there are hundreds of drawings, studies from life and notes, which preceded the drafting on the canvases. His works had mainly the Tuscan market, but he always remained a signature present and treated also in the national market.
