Description : San Lorenzo preparato per il martirio
Oil on copper. The painting is a copy of the original by Adam Elsheimer held at the London National Gallery. The painting was part of the collection in 1876 and it dates back to Elsheimer's first years of stay in Rome (1600-1601). The dimensions of this painting are slightly bigger than the original, but it is identical for subject and details. For this reason, we believe it was painted by somebody who knew the artist in person. The period of this painting (17th century) is confirmed by the technical analysis of the pictorial fabric. It is presented in frame.
