Description : Paesaggio fluviale con pastori e gregge

Oil on canvas. Restored and ritelato. Unpublished provenance certainly roman, as a confirmation that the important frame "Carlo Maratta" golden several orders of carvings, the painting should be confirmed without any doubt to the catalogue of Andrea Locatelli, focusing for the first time by Andrea Busiri Vici in the monograph that, although dated, still remains today the most complete and valid contribution to the roman painter ("Andrea Locatelli and roman landscape painting of the Eighteenth century",Rome,Ugo Bozzi,1976). To it is added the recent essay biographical and critical by Rossella Leoneper the "Dizinario Biographical degli Italiani" (vol.66,2006,ad vocem), which examines again the sources on the painter, and inventories, which document his works in the collections of Italian Eighteenth century. Even the paintings that emerged after that date, including the Stunning "river Landscape" is also considerable in size, sold at Christie's in Milan on may 25, 2011 to 170,000 € (lot 57),confirm Locatelli as the most important landscape painter of the Eighteenth century roman, certainly on a par with the more well-known Jan Frans van Bloemgracht, the Horizon, and him more sensitive to a nature which, although idealized in observance of the poetry of the Arcadia, there was the remains of the Ancient architectural ruins and sculptural fragments - to be the protagonist of paintings by the main Italian collectors, first of all, the Colonna princes and the dukes of the Rospigliosi. Characterized by a stretch of water central, our unpublished painting can confront, even in the articulation of the first levels separated by thick patches of trees, and other landscapes catalogued by Busiri Vici (1976,cit.,nn.85,115, and 278), as this will enhance the trees and sky in the compositions, essential and in some way reminiscenti of the large models of the seventeenth century, Gaspar Dughet, and of the late Salvator Rosa. Wholly new is the reason of the building on the opposite side of the water mirror, and his reflection. Of particular quality are the figures animate the foreground of the landscape, they, too, alluding to the innocent serenity of an ideal Golden Age,lost but still possible to trace in the rustic quiet of the roman countryside. Well-defined in drapery, and expertly shaded, we report the first formation of Andrea Locatelli as a painter of the figure in the roman workshop of Biagio Puccini. Ultimately, the canvas in the examination, remarkable for its state of preservation, constitute a significant addition to the catalog of the artist. The frame, coeval, is adapted.
