Description : San Giovanni Battista

Oil on canvas. The painting, showing the clear influence of Caravaggio, depicts St. John the Baptist who is sleeping in a large cavity within a tree, from which a sheep is cropping the leaves. The horizontal composition is beautiful, with a lot of light and shade and a strong realism in the representation, especially in the contrast between the two figures - the Saint and the animal - which are depicted with brighter colors compared to the darker background. It is presented in a revival frame. 17th century.
