Description : Ritratto di cacciatore

Oil on canvas. Portrait of a gentleman at the end of an hunting trip: he's standring upright and pointing with and hand the pack of dogs around him; on his left his servant is holding with an hand the prey and with the other one the hunting's horn; on his right there is his rifle, standing upright, and another hunter on his horese is getting closer; in the backgronud we can see hill under a cloudy sky and an hunt in progress. The style and the composition perfectly locate the painting inside the LOmbard portraiture of 18th century. In particular this painting recalls Vittore Ghislandi's work, known as Fra' Galgario (1655-1743), in whose prodution there are similar portraits. Even if very close to the realistic style, in this painting there is not that representing irony with which Ghislandi used to undeline and accuse the whicknesses of a nobility in decline. Teh painting needs cleaning and restoring: shows a little hole on the servant's face and small color drops; it had already been restored. The painting comes along with coeval wood frame with engraved and gilded leafy inlays.
