Oil on tablet. Signed in the bottom left of the page. The work of the sicilian artist Salvatore Fiume (1915-1997). The female universe has been one of the central themes of his pictorial research and the formal. He was a great traveller, he visited places remote and exotic in search of inspiration always new. To return from his travels, reported the impressions that gave rise to the female figures which he had encountered, drawing inspiration for his works. The present work depicts three somali women with dresses and traditional ornaments. The warm and bright colours, the brushwork is deliberately crude, effectively communicate the warmth, the beauty and the mystery related to the lands of africa. The work is accompanied by authentic photos released by the Fondazione Salvatore Fiume. In the frame.

Additional Information

Artist: Salvatore Fiume (1915-1997)

Salvatore Fiume (Comiso 1915 - Milan 1997) was a multifaceted artist, painter, sculptor, architect, writer (he published novels, short stories, tragedies, comedies and poems) and set designer (he collaborated with the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, with Covent Garden in London and with the Teatro Massimo in Palermo). After training at the Royal Art Institute of the Book of Urbino, he moved to Milan where he forged relationships with important intellectuals of the time, including Quasimodo and Buzzati. He began his activity as Art Director in Ivrea, but soon moved to Canzo to devote himself full time to painting, his true passion, while also engaging in some experiments in the sculptural and architectural fields. He traveled a lot, bringing back in his works the atmospheres, the colors, the suggestions of the places he visited, in particular of Polynesia.
