Description : Bice del Balzo ritrovata da Marco Visconti nel sotterraneo del suo castello di Rosate
Oil on canvas. The depicted event recalls the novel 'Marco Visconti' written by Tommaso Grossi, published in 1831 and belonging to the School of Manzoni characterized by historical and fiction events. The novel tells about the hindered love between Bice del Balzo and Ottorino Visconti, Marco's cousin (Galeazzo's brother) who, smitten with the girl, decides to impede the wedding between the couple and only just before he is murdered, he regrets what he did and releases the girl who was keeping prisoner in the dungeon of his castle in Rosate. The canvas depicts the dramatic moment when the heroic Marco Visconti saves the collapsed woman under a dark sky with the wounded man who kept her prisoner in the background. Arienti's production is characterized by Neoclassical education and illustrations, with a Romantic choice of subjects. Frame of the late 19th century.
