Description : Matrimonio mistico di S.Caterina con S.Sebastiano

Oil painting on canvas. Antique copy of the famous painting by Correggio (approximately 1527) held at the Louvre in Paris. The focus of the painting is represented by the three hands of the Virgin, the Child and the young St. Catherine of Alexandria. The gazes of the characters converge toward the hands, included St. Sebastian's gaze, unusual guest of this mystic union. On the background to the left one can see the scene of the Saint's martyrdom, who is present in the scene because of the client's membership to the Confraternity of St. Sebastian. The painting, even if it's a copy, is of high quality. It was relined and restored in 1800s.
