Description : "In tempo di pace"

Oil painting on canvas. Signature and date in the lower right corner. The old knight is sitting on an armchair dressed with his nightgown and surrounded by his armors, now worthless. His gaze is intense and severe, almost frowning. A letter with medallion is abandoned at his feet - sign of uselessness and disdain for a role he can no longer practice. The whole scene is intense and dramatic even though the title makes reference to peace. On the back there is the French title 'En temps de paix', further signature and date. It is presented in beautiful treated coeval frame. 1886.
