Oil painting on canvas. Signature and date 1881 in the lower right corner. Louis Bosworth Hurt was George Turner's student, an English landscape painter and student at John Constable's school. Cattle rancher, Hurt specialized in painting those animals, particularly the Highland race - named after the mountain region of northern Scotland where they are from. He used to depict arid and wild landscapes with stormy sky. The only forms of life are the cows. The painting is presented in coeval frame.
