Description : Ritratto di Gaetano Negri
Oil on canvas. The name and the title of the subject appears on the right: Secr. Gen. of Waters partially deleted. The depicted subject was the brother of the better known Antonio Paolo Negri, from the historical rich family of the land-owners bourgeoisie of the Abbiatense area, residing in Cassinetta di Lugagnano. His brother Antonio Paolo, who was a leading figure in the political climate between XVIII and XIX centuries, was made baron from emperor Napoleon I, but he lost the title for the lacking of an entailed estate. His brother, portrayed here, Cavalier Gaetano Negri della Torre, has his ancient nobility and the title of Count reconfirmed in 1817. In the portrait he is holding a letter from the Directorate General of the Waters of the Naviglio of Pavia, dated 1808. On his lapel, an accolade with a two-headed eagle on the imperial crown and the date 1815. The portrait is displayed in a coeval frame, gilded and crafted.
