The workshop Bongiovanni-Vaccaro began with James Bongiovanni (1772-1859), the younger brother of Salvatore, a sculptor in Rome, who brought in the traditional technique of terracotta figurines, the relevant innovation of the rendering of the characters with thin leaves of clay, cut and arranged on the shaped bodies in the guise of authentic clothes.
