Description : Lot e le figlie
Oil on canvas. The biblical episode represented has been subjected to recurrent prodution along the centuries. After running away from Sodoma, destroyed by God with fire, Lot finds refuge with his daughters in a cave; they want to give birth but since there are no other men in thet land, they gave wine to him and had sexual intercourse with him while he was drunk. The painting techniques recall to Antonio Molinari, venetian painter born in 1665: formed by his father Giovanni Battista before beginning at the workshp of Antonio Zanchi . Molinari lived and worked in the time of fransition from Baroque to Rococo, transition that affected Venice between 17th and 18th century. His painting shows sensitive naturalistic inclination, with airy mode, bright color ranges and with a crumbled touch. He was specialized in paintings of "storys" with private destination, between which there are a lot of canvases with biblical subjects; private commisions were not lacking to attest the status reached by the venetian painters. The painting, still with original canvas and traces of restoring, shows some color fallings. Style Frame.
