The foreshortening shows a river that flows rather quickly in a hilly landscape: on the bank, in the foreground on the left, two women who have washed their clothes and a traveler; on the other bank, in the background on the hill, the small village. The painting has several diffuse color drops. It is presented in a gilded frame from the early 1900s.

Intense portrait of a woman in black: contrasts the severity of the dress contrasts with the puffed sleeves and the worked brooch; the woman holds a small book in her hand, the title of which refers to the works of Metastasio, to underline her cultural background. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a gilded style frame.

Mythological scene

Venus flees in the chariot of Ares

Lean oil on canvas. The scene depicts a goddess on a chariot flying above the clouds, driven by another girl and with two winged cherubs at her side, while a battle rages below. The scene is taken from the fifth book of the Iliad: while Achaeans and Trojans are engaged in battle in the plain in front of the city, the goddess Aphrodite, wounded after saving her son Aeneas, accompanied by Iris flees from the battlefield on the chariot of Ares, to return to Olympus. The oval painting, with clear decorative intent, has small drops in color. In a strip frame.

Pastel on cardboard. Expressive and delicate portrait of a young woman of the late 19th century bourgeoisie. The painting has small drops of color in correspondence with the background. It is presented in a coeval gilded frame, unfortunately with several deficiencies in the wood and gilding.

Portrait Of A Man Oil On Canvas 19th Century

Oil on canvas. French School. It is the portrait of a distinguished gentleman, in his studio, intent on writing a letter: on the sheet, the text in French bears the date 1814. Restored, the painting is presented in a frame from the late 19th century, regilded.

Joseph Sold By His Brothers Italian School Oil On Canvas 19th Century

Oil on canvas. Italian School. The subject refers to the episode of the Old Testament in which Joseph, Jacob's favourite son, is sold by his jealous brothers to merchants who will take him to Egypt at the court of the Pharaoh. Joseph and his brothers will be the founders of the twelve tribes of Israel. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a frame in style from the early 20th century.

The two compositions differ in the elements depicted: in one, some different fruits (grapes, figs and peaches) with multicolored flowers appear in the foreground; in the other, a cascade of mixed fruit and flowers falls from a metal plate. The Magdalene at the Foot of the Cross

Oil on paper. On the back there is another drawing on paper with the figure of St. Peter. The two designs are mounted in a style frame, with glass on the back.

Pair of Gouache on Paper

Gouache on paper. The two squares propose the figures of a gentleman and a lady, just shaped, played on shades of gray-black, lightened by touches of gold to create reflections. The two small works are presented in contemporary frames.

The Arrest Oil On Canvas 19th Century

Oil on canvas. Inside a large woodland landscape, animated by figures of commoners, there is a squad of soldiers of the National Guard who are escorting two men under arrest in the centre. The scene refers to episodes that happened frequently during the Renaissance, like the historically documented and portrayed arrest of Ugo Bassi and of captain Livraghi, patriots in support of Garibaldi. Even if it is an historical subject, the portrayal leaves room mostly for the landscape element, which fills the whole scene and is portrayed in great detail. There is a signature "L. Corsi" bottom right: a painter from Florence called Luisa Corsi (born in 1830) is well known, but she is mostly well known for her miniatures. On the back of the painting there is an antique label of an inventory. In an antique frame from the 19th century.
