Ink on paper. Signed and dated in November 1958. At the back there is written that attributes the ownership of the work to Lunella Romagnoni, the wife of the artist, which also appears in the signature Lunella. Bepi Romagnoni, a young milanese artist who died tragically at a young age, was a leader of the pictorial movement of the existential realism that was inspired by the philosophy of Kierkegaard, Camus, Sartre: we find that inspiration in the themes chosen at the subject of his works - the emptiness, the lack of communication between the characters, the loneliness and the differences between social classes-both those of the original and subsequent collages. It was always up to date vis-à-vis the international contemporary art scene (such as the Cobra group and the informal committee) and he was also interested in the painting muralist the mexican José Clemente Orozco, beginning to suffer in its production of strong accents espressionistici, and then, from the late '50 and early '60's, the surrealist influences, populating his painting of signs, graphics, and sometimes leading to images phytomorphic and zoomorphic. The proposed work belongs to this period. It is presented in frame double glass.

Artist: Bepi Romagnoni (1930-1964)

Born in Milan in 1930, Bepi Romagnoni is considered one of the exponents of Italian existential realism. He began his painting studies in the early 1950s by enrolling in the evening school of the Brera Academy. Here he met for the first time some of the painters of the so-called existential realism such as Mino Ceretti, Giuseppe Guerreschi, Giuseppe Martinelli and Tino Vaglieri, who were inspired by the philosophy of Kierkegaard, Camus, Sartre, authors who had attracted Romagnoni's interest in years of early youth. Romagnoni's first solo show was at the Schettini Gallery in Milan. From 1957 to 1960 he approaches informal art. In 1963 one of his works was exhibited at the Contemporary Italian Paintings exhibition, set up in some Australian cities. The following year he died prematurely due to an underwater fishing accident in Capo Carbonara.
