Additional Information
Artist: Giuseppe Palanti (1881-1946)
Born in 1881 in Milan, into a modest family, Giuseppe Palanti attended the Higher School of Art Applied to Industry and the Evening School of Artificers in Brera in the Lombard city from 1895, and the School of Painting of the Brera Academy from 1898 , where he was a student of Tallone, Mentessi, Bignami and Pogliaghi. A versatile artist, especially at a young age, he applied himself to the decorative arts (designs for fabrics, ceramics, stained glass, wrought iron, metal objects, furniture), to graphics (posters and book covers), to the creation of fashion sketches and scenography for the Teatro alla Scala; in the 1910s he dealt, as an architect and urban planner, with the creation of the "garden city" Milano Marittima, as well as the subsequent advertising launch; furthermore, strongly attracted by salon painting, he dedicated himself to it, orienting himself on a disheveled style of language. After the war he established himself as a painter, appreciated by the Milanese entrepreneurial and financial bourgeoisie who, for their city or summer residences, commissioned portraits, still lifes and vases of flowers, as well as vaporous and languid nude paintings. He died in Milan in 1946.
