Description : Scorcio della laguna di Venezia

Oil on plywood. Signed in the bottom left of the page. In the glimpse faded, the sky and the sea merge and blend together, separated only at the thin line of the horizon in which we recognize the profile of the city, and the monochrome is interrupted only by the line of the earth that is projected in the middle horizontally. A pupil of Hayez, and Bertini at the Brera Academy in Milan, Achille Beltrame and as a painter, he created hundreds of paintings in oil, watercolor, tempera and pencil. His most popular and the most important is, however, that as an illustrator, in particular for his collaboration with the Domenica del Corriere, who made of his colour plates the hallmark of the magazine. The proposed work is presented in full frame style.

Artist: Achille Beltrame (1871-1945)

Born in Arzignano (VI) in 1871, Achille Beltrame studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan with Giuseppe Bertini. While still a student, he exhibited the painting "La Bicocca the day after the battle of Novara", which earned him the Mylius prize and is currently kept at the Brera Academy in Milan. He made many portraits, two of which are in the collection of the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan, he painted altarpieces, panels and murals, but his main activity, from 1898 until his death, was explained for the illustrations of the two pages at colors of the weekly "La Domenica del Corriere", a periodical widespread in Italy and abroad, which earned Beltrame an international reputation.
