Description : Ritratto maschile
Oil on canvas. Signed and dated bottom left. It is the portait of a soldier of the Austro-Hungarian army, as can be gathered from the award appointed on his uniform. It is the war Medal, instituted in 1873 from the Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, that was granted to all soldiers of land and sea that participated in the campaigns in 1848, 1849, 1859, 1864, 1866, 1869, 1878, 1882, in addition to the ones who participated in the Chinese Boxer Rebellion between 1900 and 1901. The medal consists in a bronze circular disc made of the cannons seized from their enemies, on the front the face of the monarch looking right with a writing of his name. Hedwig Hona-Senft was an Hungarian artist who realised many portraits tied to the royal family of the Habsburg-Lorraine. The portrait, restored and recanvased, is presented in a frame in style.
