The milanese artist studied at the Brera Academy where he also taught between 1927 and 1941; he had a troubled artistic path because of the hostility of his father, the Great War to which he took part and his active participation to politics in the socialist party that brought him till prison. Initially pictorially involved in the new currents of the twentieth century, in search of solutions to post-impressionist painting, around 1930 began the first experiences of that "light-bottomed painting" that led him to be among the leading exponents of Lombard clarification. The brightness and chromatic delicacy characterize his paintings, mainly landscapes. The painting proposed here, set in a forest in the countryside of Parma where Lilloni held a chair at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1941 to 1962, well highlights his pictorial mode, accompanied by another minor component of his painting, that is the tendency to stylize the traits used in describing the vegetation, probably inspired by the styles of Japanese art, with which he got in contact. The painting comes with frame
