Meissen porcelain tray with "onion decoration". The brim is decorated with relief scrolls and shells and refined handles. Manufacture's brand under the base. The "Zwiebelmuster" or "Blue Onion", commonly known as "Onion Decoration" had become symbol of the Meissen Manufacture. The tray is painted with cobalt blue flowers, trees and strongly sketched fruits. The eldest piece made by meissen with this decoration, inspired by the chinese drawing from the Kangxi era is dated back to 1739 and it was painted by Hoeroldt. There are sketched peonies, japanese peaches, aster and pomegranates that grow sinuosly around a bamboo cane. Each of this elements has a precise meaning inside the oriental symbology. They represent: longevity ( the bamboo cane), immortality ( the peach) and fertility (pomegranate)
