Description

In the eighteenth century the city of Pisa was part of the canonical itinerary of the Grand Tour in Tuscany of European nobles and artists. This "Guide for the amateur traveler to painting, sculpture and architecture in the city of Pisa" represents the first example of a guided itinerary in the eighteenth-century sense of the term: Pandolfo Titi (1696-1765), a native of Borgo Sansepolcro, as specified on the title page, is the author of this innovative guide which, although framed in the traditional reading of the art daughter of Vasari and Baldinucci, also opens up to the description of contemporary works of art from the early eighteenth century. The text is preceded by some sonnets dedicated by Accademici Arcadici to the author, in thanks for the finished work
