Oil on canvas. Northern Italy School. Beautiful compositions with a bouquet of assorted flowers in the shades of red (that refer to the table covers), white and brown, presented in precious vases in embossed metal; peculiar is the presence in both pieces of the bird resting on the table next to the vase. The two compositions refer to the large production of still lives, that began to develop widely starting in the 17th century thanks to Caravaggio, who thought "that so much manufacture was needed to make a good painting of flowers, as of figures". This affirmation gave dignity and autonomy to still life and a start of a production of pieces by different authors, starting from the Roman Caravaggesque School, but then extending widely to the Northern Italian and Flemish productions, which reached up to the '900. This type of painting is often found in pairs for a specific request of the client, due to the explicit furnishing purpose that it had. The two pieces proposed here are presented in remarkable coeval frames, in wood carved with leaf-like and gilded spirals.
