Description : Ritratto di nobiluomo toscano
Oil on canvas. The portrayed nobleman wears formal attire, austere but embellished with rich lace on the sleeves and jabot, under which a pendant decoration is well displayed. He holds a letter, whose header can be read. This is an artifice to declare the name of the rich man: the location of Pistoia and the name Arrighi, which corresponds to an important Tuscan family, can be read well. The medal of the pendant, which bears a red wedged cross with lanceolate tips (or red octagonal cross), reminds of the Holy Military Order of Saint Stephen, Pope and martyr, knightly order of the Grand Ducal house of Tuscany, which was conferred to the nobles of Tuscan cities with the requisites. The order still exists. The painting, restored and relined, is presented in a frame in style.
