Description
Marine chronometer signed Thomas Mercer Ltd, no. 18935, in brass and glass, silver dial with Roman numerals, blued steel leaf hands. Hand-wound mechanical movement, complete with original key. Contained inside a mahogany wood box with glass top, supplied by “B.Cooke & Son Ltd” Hull, cardan system. The chronometer can be dated between 1874 and 1890, as Thomas Mercer Ltd moved to St. Albans in 1874, opening a factory at 14-15 Prospect Road. Later, in 1890, feeling the need to have a London address on the dials, he took up an office at 81 Westmoreland Place, City Road.
