Description : Capriccio architettonico con figure

Oil painting on canvas. Italian school. A large architectural structure with columns occupies the entire central and left part of the painting; on the right there are some figures of commoners, while in the background a river runs alongside the city. It falls as a typology in the painting of capriccio, that is the landscape painting that from the end of the seventeenth to the eighteenth century loved to combine real or fantastic architectural elements, of reworked ancient ruins, in landscapes often populated by figures, albeit not dominant, according to a variety of declinations that could be grotesque or visionary. The painting, restored and relined, is presented in an instile frame.
