Additional Information

Artist: Gian Rodolfo D'Accardi (1906-1993)

Painter and poet born in Palermo in 1906, Gian Rodolfo d'Accardi moved with his family to Milan in 1925, where he began to devote himself to the world of painting; enrolled at the Brera Academy, he did not attend it but was self-taught. From the 1930s he began to participate in the Italian artistic life, appearing in various events and exhibitions. In 1939 he also began to propose himself as a poet, who will always be an inseparable figure from that of a painter. After the Second World War, he returned to Milan and opened his studio to artists, friends and collectors; his artistic life continues to be rich in experiences, acknowledgments and encounters with interesting and noteworthy people, including the painters Arturo Tosi, Lucio Fontana, Fiorenzo Tomea and the architect Giò Ponti. The 60s-70s saw him work and exhibit in the United States, where he gave a turning point to his pictorial journey: his painting, which he himself defined as abstract-figurative, now takes on decidedly strong accents of color, expressed by heavy brushstrokes and intense that communicate intensity to the rides, to the masks, to the battles. In the last years of his life, after moving to a villa on Lake Como, d'Accardi immersed in silent nature focused on poetry, a fundamental expression of his artistic sensitivity that reflects his pictorial world.
