Colour screen printing on paper. Signed lower right. On the back there is a stamp with the serial number 133/150, quoting "Andy Warhol. From the Manifesto for the exhibition at the "Diamanti" in Ferrara 1975. Special edition. Limited edition". The portfolio of signed screenprints created in 1975 by Andy Warhol, entitled Ladies and Gentlemen, is a series of 10 canvases made in a limited edition of 150 copies, at the suggestion of the Italian publisher Luciano Anselmino. The protagonists of this series are the unknown faces of African American drag queens. Warhol portrays their faces full of expressiveness and provocation from the neck upwards; the broad strokes of colour do not respect the profiles of the figures, going beyond the outlines, and they reflect the transgression of the characters. In reality, Warhol wants to capture with his Polaroid the combination of pomp and solitude of these personalities, between the innocence of a tender girl and the confidence of a virile man. The exhibition at the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara was the first exclusive presentation of this series, but also the first time that Warhol presented works in which he no longer immortalized stars, but unknown people, faces of the street, the "outcasts" of New York City nights. The piece is presented in a frame.
