Description : Soggetto Mitologico
Oil on canvas. In the scene, placed in the middle of the clouds, the protagonist is a young man who, because of his winged feet, is recognizable as the god Mercury; he is surrounded by three figures among which the one on the right, which Hermes encircles with his arms, has a crown and a sceptre on his lap, and could be the god Jupiter, father of Mercury, and on the other side of Philemon and Baucis, the elderly married couple who gave hospitality to the two deities and were rewarded by having their wish to die together fulfilled. The painting, already relined, has large losses of colour and is in need of restoration. It is presented in an ancient frame which has been adapted and relacquered.
