Portrait Of A Young Woman Pencil On Paper 19th Century

Oil painting on canvas. It is a portrait of two half-length male characters, wearing cloaks and cone-shaped hats with bright feathers; the harsh, dark and sardonic expressions make one think of brigade soldiers or brigands, or, for the liveliness of clothing, of actors who impersonate such figures. The work is presented in a gilded frame from the end of the 19th century, with shortcomings.

Genre scene

Tapestry with genre scene set in the countryside: a young man defends himself with a spear from the assault of a group of stray dogs. The tapestry fabric has several horizontal cuts, especially in the upper half.

Oil on canvas. Eastern European School. Signed Szego G. below. These are two works to be proposed aligned because they depict a boy and a girl lying on the same lawn in a mirrored position, as if facing each other, probably intent on a love game: they wear gypsy clothes and have musical instruments with them - she a tambourine and him a violin - which refer to two characters of Slavic ethnicity, from the gypsy world. The whole is lively and serene. The two works are presented in styled frames.

Oil on canvas. North European school of the 19th century. A wide landscape close to steep reliefs, sees a wide river flowing in the valley, animated by barges and popular figures intent on various activities. The landscape and the pictorial typology, in particular the brown and dark color choices, refer to the countries of Northern Europe. The canvas shows signs of patches on the back. It is presented in a stylish frame.

Oil painting on canvas. Not signed. With a rural setting, it offers a glimpse of a village by the river, with some women intent on doing laundry. The work is presented in a contemporary gilded frame.

Watercolor on cardboard. On the back there is the date 1892 and an unidentified signature. The composition presents a series of objects placed on a small table surmounted by a mirror: two books, one of which is open, a painted ceramic vase and a hookah. It is presented in a gilded tray frame from the 19th century.

Oil on canvas. The nice scene is set outside the gate of a garden (a park?) Surrounded by a high crumbling wall: a girl plays on the ground, surrounded by scratching hens. On the back there is a label with an old attribution to Achille Formis Befani (1830-1906), a Neapolitan artist who then worked in Milan, conforming to the Lombard school; he dealt with both landscape and figure painting. The painting is presented in a coeval gilt frame.

With a romantic atmosphere, the landscape with the hill full of trees, the stream crossed by a bridge and the young villager carrying the amphora of water on her head, is surmounted by a sky mottled of different colors, with darker clouds that fade away into the pink of the dawning sky. On the first canvas, the painting shows small drops in colour. It is presented in a stylish frame.

Glimpse of Paestum

Gouache on cardboard. Signed lower right. The Neapolitan painter Antonio Coppola attended courses at the Institute of Fine Arts in Naples. He was a good temperer and executed with ease and with marine effect and views of Naples, with a production sought above all by foreigners and tourists. The foreshortening shows the countryside around the temple of Paestum, with a hay cart and its farmer in the foreground. It is presented in a gilded frame from the end of the 19th century.

Lucerna Lake

Colored lithography. Signed at the bottom left. Jean-Pierre Thènot was a french draftman and incisor that wrote several treatises painting. It shows a glimpse that opens up on the right with a wide lake, probably Lucerna Lake; on the left there is a rustic cottage with figures. It is part of a serie of Swiss landscapes. The lithography comes in a coeval gilded frame.

Swiss Landscae

Colour lithograph. Signed at the bottom right. Jean-Pierre Thénot was a French painter, draughtsman and engraver, author of treatises on painting. The lithograph shows a view of a mountain landscape: in the foreground on the right is a chalet offering refreshment to travellers passing along the path. The landscape then sweeps over a large mountain range, presumably the Alps, with a lake between its peaks. The lithograph is part of a series of landscapes of Switzerland. The art work comes in a coeval gilded frame.

Landscape with Castle and Figures

Color lithograph. Signed lower left. Jean-Pierre Thénot was a French painter, draftsman and engraver, author of treatises on painting. The lithography offers a landscape view with a wide river on the bank of which stands a castle; in the foreground the scene is animated by figurines of ladies and gentlemen strolling along the path. It probably belongs to the series of reproductions of Swiss landscapes, made by the artist. The work is presented in a contemporary gilded frame.
