Oil on cardboard. Signed lower right. Born in Milan, Daniele Fontana often worked in Rome, dividing himself between the activity of satirical draftsman and illustrator and that of figurative and genre painter. A great caricaturist, his is also the depiction of the "turreted woman" of Italy, for years the official symbol of the Italian government and state. In the last period of his life he had his studio in Lenno, on Lake Como, of which this landscape portrays a glimpse, also recognizable by the characteristic boat. The painting is presented in a 1930s frame, with drops of the gilding.
