Description : Studi di ufficiale a cavallo
Lead pencil study on paper. Signed lower right Grimaldi. Inside an oval is an officer of the Batteries on horseback charging; at the base are coats of arms and military triumphs. The knight's uniform refers to the Carlo Alberto period, circa 1845. This is a study by Grimaldi commissioned, probably for a press or publication, by the Voloire Regiment, the body of the "Batterie a Cavallo", the particularly mobile artillery units used to provide rapid support for the actions of other units. Stanislao Grimaldi, Count of Poggetto, from Turin, was the official painter of Victor Emmanuel II, superintendent of the Accademia Albertina in Turin and a well-known illustrator of Risorgimento battles. The drawing is presented in a frame.
