Glimpse of the Sea with Fishermen

Oil painting on canvas. Signed F. Pratella on the lower left. In the Gulf of Naples, identifiable by the Vesuvius in the background, on a sandy stretch of coast a group of fishermen with their women pull the boats ashore. Light and colors fill the atmosphere of the scene. The Neapolitan artist Fausto Pratella, son of Attilio, initially followed his father's leave, painting marine full of light and movement, like the one proposed here, but soon wanted to depart from Attilio's wake, choosing different subjects and techniques, which led him to paint the cold peripheral parks of Milan, bringing in his canvases the evocative visions of those greens, those grays, those browns saturated with that humid and foggy vapidity typically Lombard. Colorful flowers in a white vase, and some fruit scattered across the table, are rendered with large, overlapping brushstrokes, in bright colors on a light background to create a bright and vibrant effect. Teonesto Deabate was a Turin artist who devoted himself not only to painting, but also to other forms of applied art: ceramics, interior decoration, illustration. His pictorial production belongs above all to the post-war period and is made up of landscapes, still lifes but also figures, made in watercolor oil: in it the search for light-color relationships is fundamental, to create sensations of finesse and sensitivity through subtle tonal combinations and elegant arabesques. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Born in Treviso but moved with his family to Milan from an early age, Lucio Cargnel inherited his passion for painting and music from his father Vittore Antonio. As for his father, in Lucio Cargnel's painting an important role is played by the study of light, but associated with the search for a highly scenographic image, with lights and shadows that chase each other among the architectures, expressed through soft, nuanced colors. Among his works are renowned landscapes and glimpses of cities, even imaginary ones, as well as streets, squares and canals; the places of his choice are Milan, Venice and the Ligurian Riviera. Born in Milan in 1913, and trained at the Brera Academy (of which he later became a teacher), Adriano Gajoni became passionate about the study of seventeenth-century Lombard painters and Dutch and Flemish painting of the seventeenth century, from whose meticulous realism he let himself be inspired. Of strict figurative observance, Gajoni preferred landscapes, portraits and above all still lifes, which he expressed in fairy-tale and allegorical compositions. He mainly practiced oil painting on wood and hardboard. Also this painting proposes a landscape of ancient taste: in the countryside, on the path that runs along a wide river, a pastoral figure passes on his donkey, followed by his small herd. This painting proposes a group of scholars depicted in the Flemish manner, in particular cartographers due to the presence of the globe and the sextant. The subject proposed here, although of a landscape nature, is part of a rare production of a series of small pictures, almost sketches, which leads back to the First World War, in particular to the military expedition of an Italian body to Macedonia in 1916, sent by the government to the aim to counter the Austro-Hungarian and Bulgarian forces during the First World War and to control that territory. Moreover, there is no documentation of the painter's direct participation in this war campaign. The painting is framed.

Originally from Mantua but artistically trained at the Brera Academy, as a pupil of Cesare Tallone, Lino Baccarini exhibited at the Milanese Biennale and then throughout Italy, distinguishing himself above all as a portraitist, even with famous personalities. The work proposes a landscape of cultivated plain, with a line of wagons of wanderers that advance slowly on the road in the middle of the fields. It is presented in a stylish frame.

Glimpse of Lake Maggiore

Oil on canvas. Carlo Monti, born in Arona, and trained in the nude school of the Brera Academy and in the studio of his friend Usellini, was an artist who lived and worked rather isolated from the world, following his own inner vein, shunning groups, by currents and schools; his very presence at the personal and collective exhibitions takes place at the request and invitation of the gallery owners themselves. He mainly devoted himself to the landscape, mostly set in the Lombard nature and its Piedmont, and expressed through strong and warm tones, capturing nature from life and transfiguring it, without lingering in detail. Monti has also made portraits, which are in great demand, but with a very different executive technique from that used in landscapes: if in these he has given vent to the sign and personal calligraphy, in the portrait, in general, he has dedicated himself to the introspection of the subject to be painted, resulting in a more rigorous drafting and a less evident display of signs.
