Description : Natura morta da via Casseria
Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. At the back on the frame there is the title. Giuseppe Viola, a painter of Sicilian origins but born and also raised artistically in Milan, where he then always worked, after a first phase of still lifes and Milanese landscapes, he began to create a mix of sands, colors, glues, which led him to create faces with a lived-in flavor, seascapes that come to life with the sand. From that moment on, his works with a material impact will represent the unicum for his production. In 1968 he met Dino Buzzati: it was with him that in 1969 he gave life to the "Manifesto of Pictorial Imagism", becoming the leader of that current, precisely Imagism, born from the transposition of the imagist poetics of Ezra Pound (1885-1972) which remained confined until then and for fifty years in the literary world. Imagism wants to break with every pattern and every form of linearity of expression. From that moment the production of “collage” works for Viola began, which led him to create works with geometric shapes using briar, glass, leather, plastic. Since 1980 he has also begun to try his hand at sculpture. Viola has always maintained the link with her homeland, which she also told in her works. The proposed painting is presented in a frame.
