Description : Scena di processione
Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. The scene depicts a popular procession in a country in the Hungarian countryside, as can be deduced from the characteristic clothes: a large crowd walks in procession, while many other faithful along the road pay homage to the Cross and the banners carried in arms. It is the work of the Hungarian artist of Jewish origin Erno Tibor, who trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, then studied in Paris and worked throughout Europe, settling in Nagyvárad (Oradea) in Romania, where he founded a school of art. There he remained until, in 1944, he was deported to the Dachau concentration camp, where he died. Tibor first established himself as a painter close to Impressionism, to then move on to a more modern painting. His subjects were mainly the places he lived in, depicted in scenes full of characters and episodes of popular life. The painting has several slight patches. It is presented in a gilded frame from the mid-1900s, with several shortcomings.
