Description : Scorcio invernale di villaggio
Oil under glass. Signed and dated lower right. Born in a small Croatian village to a peasant family, Ivan Lacković learns to paint on his own. Moving to Zagreb where he works as a postman and delivery boy, in 1962 he meets the Croatian naif master Krsto Hegedušić, he frequents his studio and begins to exhibit his works, until from 1968 he can begin to devote himself exclusively to painting. Among his works prevail the winter glimpses of his native region, Podravina, which he creates using the technique typical of the artists of northern Croatia, oil or tempera on glass. Since 1970, he has also begun to propose allegorical and fantastic paintings, always keeping a surreal and lyrical atmosphere in his works. The winter landscape proposed here is presented in a frame.
