Announcement in painted terracotta, Italy, early 20th century. The reference model can be traced to the announcements in Tuscan Renaissance glazed terracotta, a production linked in particular to the Della Robbia family.

Germany, XX Century

Two Meissen porcelain jugs with "onion decoration". The "Zwiebelmuster" or "Blue Onion", commonly known by us as the "Onion Decoration", has become somewhat of a symbol of the Meissen Manufacture over the centuries. It is painted in cobalt blue below deck and depicts highly stylized flowers, trees and fruit. The oldest piece made in Meissen with this decoration, inspired by a Chinese drawing from the Kangxi era, is dated 1739 and was painted directly by Hoeroldt. There are stylized peonies, Japanese peaches, asters and pomegranates that develop sinuously around a bamboo cane. Each of these elements has a precise meaning in oriental symbolism. They represent: longevity (bamboo), good luck (peony), cheerfulness (aster), immortality (peach) and fertility (pomegranate).
