Mixed media on paper. Signed and dated lower right. Born in Milan in 1880, Aldo Mazza was an illustrator, advertiser and painter. Close to the pointillist current, he created numerous portraits of women and children, but also urban landscapes and floral compositions. The design proposed here is presented in an exposed frame.

Born in Milan in 1880, Aldo Mazza Aldo Mazza grew up in an atmosphere marked by art and patriotismː his father and uncle had participated in the defense of Milan against the Austrians of Marshal Josef Radetzky. At the Brera Academy he had Cesare Tallone as teacher. He devoted himself to painting and in the meantime illustrated children's books. His first assignment as an author of satirical cartoons came from "Guerin Meschino", a newspaper with which he collaborated for more than twenty years; he also designed for "Il Numero", for "L'Illustrazione Italiana", for "Il Secolo" (from 1924) and for "Il Pasquino". He was linked to the group of caricaturists of the "Frigidarium". Later he worked as a poster designer and as an advertising graphic designer, but in the meantime he painted, exhibiting his works in Italian exhibitions. His painting was mainly of a pointillist style.
