Description

The value of this precious booklet is mainly attributable to the splendid binding signed by one of the most important bookbinders of the time, Vermontel. Gaspard de la nuit represents the life work of the French poet Aloysius Bertrand (1807-1841). Bertrand failed to see this singular collection of prose and verse published, which came out posthumously in 1842 through the interest of a friend. But the success came precisely with our edition of 1895 published by the Mercure de France in 299 copies, an edition that is the basis of the famous musical transposition composed by Maurice Ravel for the piano. Copy n. 150. Text in French. Texte en Français.
