Additional Information

Designer: Ercole Barovier

Ercole Barovier, the most important "entrepreneur-designer-artist" of Murano glass of this century. The objects designed by Ercole represent the best that was created in the period 1880-1970 by the glassworks "Artisti Barovier", "Barovier & C." and "Barovier & Toso". In the Barovier & Toso Museum there are 22,000 original drawings made by Ercole Barovier, the old photographic catalogs, the originals of the ancient "booklets of compositions" for making glass, the curiosities and the testimonies of a productive and creative activity that has gone through the whole century. In 1926 Ercole Barovier, Benvenuto's son, took over the artistic direction of the company, which in 1942 merged with the F.lli Toso glassworks, assuming the current name of Barovier & Toso. Ercole invented the new technique of hot coloring without melting the glass.
