A good copy. Full leather binding with titles and rich gilt decorations on the spine, boards framed in a gilt frame with another rich blind decoration in the center. Beautiful binding, slightly loose, with signs of wear: abrasions to the binding, hinges, edges, and corners; minimal abrasions to the spine and boards. Edges browned and sprayed. Leaves generally in very good condition, although some notes are necessary: the first leaves are browned and foxed; ownership signature in pencil on the first flyleaf (missing top edge); ownership signature and pen annotation on the title page; tears and losses in the lateral margin of the first two leaves; pen annotation on the lateral edge of page 54; pencil annotation on the lower edge of page 232; underlining and pen writing on pages 422, 423, and 466; loss in the lower inner corner of pages 473-474; Most of pages 479-480 are missing; small note on the back pastedown. Filippo Moisè, born in Florence in 1803 and died in Florence in 1856, was an important 19th-century Italian historian, archivist, and writer. He served as archivist at the Medici Archives and as director of the State Archives of Florence. He is known as the author of the works: "History of Tuscany from the Foundation of Florence to the Present Day, Abridged and Offered to Young Tuscans" and "History of Foreign Dominions in Italy from the Fall of the Roman Empire in the West to the Present Day."
