Crouching Nude Figure 1860 ca.

Oil on canvas. The work is accompanied by a photo certificate by scholar Angelo Dragone, who also notes that it was published in his catalogue "Lorenzo Delleani, l'opera e il suo tempo" (Lorenzo Delleani, l'opera e il suo tempo), in vol. II, p. 105, number 21. From a private collection in Turin, the work was presented at the Sant'Agostino auction in Turin (with a starting price of €5,000). Delleani, who initially painted mainly historical subjects, gradually moved towards plein air landscape painting, especially of his native Piedmont valleys. He also painted several figures, especially popular ones. His nudes are rarer, although scenes of bathers at the lake or on the beach are recurrent, with several nude female figures, including the figure presented here. The work is presented in a period frame.

Italy, Late XIX Century

Bust of the Venus of Capua, created in the late 19th century by Gennaro Chiurazzi, signed "J. Chiurazzi Naples" on the back. This white Carrara marble work depicts the bust of the complete statue of the Aphrodite of Capua, a Roman statue now housed in the Archaeological Museum of Naples. The bust retains an export authorization label from Chile dated 1981.

Forest with Cows and Peasant Woman

Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. Belgian artist Henri Houben, who also traveled and worked in Italy, specialized in outdoor scenes of rural life, featuring figures in traditional costume. The painting presented here is dominated by the landscape: cows graze in a leafy forest, while a peasant woman approaches them with a milk bucket. The canvas shows slight paint loss. It is presented in a mid-20th-century gilded frame.

Oil on canvas. Northern Italian School, 18th century. Central Italian landscape, with a cultivated plain, crossed by a small stream, crossed by a small bridge over which a commoner is walking. The painting was restored and relined in the first half of the 20th century; it currently requires cleaning. It is presented in an antique assembled frame, with several missing parts.

Joseph and the Wife of Potiphar

Oil on canvas. The artist's signature and studio address (Via Goito 16, Florence) are on the back. This work is a copy of a painting by Giovanni Bilivert (1585-1644, a Florentine painter known for his Baroque works inspired by biblical themes), housed in Palazzo Barberini in Rome. Rich in detail and movement, the painting has a dramatic impact and was widely reproduced in the centuries following Bilivert's production. The work presented here is an early work by the Florentine painter Carlo Facchinetti, still rooted in the 19th-century historicism movement, while his later work shifted toward popular subjects, creating many scenes of family life in rural interiors. It depicts the biblical episode in which the wife of the Egyptian dignitary Potiphar unsuccessfully attempts to seduce the servant Joseph. It is presented in a period frame.

Winter Landscape

Oil on canvas. At the bottom left is the signature E. Kettermann MCHN, indicating the city of Munich where the artist lived and worked. Kettemann specialized in Alpine landscapes, especially the Bavarian mountains, depicted predominantly snow-capped or, with their jagged peaks, against white plains crossed by frozen streams. The painting shows traces of restoration on the back. Presented in a gilded frame from the 1950s.

Oil on panel. Under a pink sky tinged with sunset, on the rocky shores near a village, several figures await the returning fishermen's boats, while other villagers pass by on the path, lingering in conversation. The work is presented in a late 19th-century gilded frame.

Interior with Monk

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Inside a study, with thick stone walls and a vaulted ceiling, simple furniture but a bookcase filled with tomes, a monk sits at his work table, inside a manuscript. Jeno Kemendy, a Hungarian painter and set designer, devoted himself primarily to genre scenes, often set in earlier periods than his own historical period. His expertise as a set designer also shines through in this painting, in the attention to detail of the setting and the man's theatrical pose. The work features slight paint loss. It is presented in a period frame.

Oil on panel. A striking nighttime view of a flat landscape with a small body of water. A farmer rides along the dirt road that runs alongside it, carrying his full baskets, while further back, several herdsmen guide their animals, urging them to stay on the path. Above, the full moon emerges from the clouds, illuminating the landscape. The work is presented in an early 20th-century gilded frame.

Ploughing in Bugey

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. On the back is a cartouche from the Société des Beaux-Arts de Lyon with the title "La bourage en Bugey." Terraire, who lived and worked for many years in Lyon, specialized in mountain landscapes in the southeastern regions of France, including Bugey (a historical and natural region in the Ain department, between Lyon and Geneva). His landscapes feature recurring figures of animals, grazing herds, and farmers going about their work. The work has some old patches visible on the back. It is presented in a contemporary frame, with several missing parts. Cows grazing in Saint Jean de Sixt, in Haute-Savoie, near La Clusaz, a subject in which the artist specialized. His broad, colorful touch is perfectly suited to the sumptuous landscapes he depicts, preferably choosing motifs with a slightly high horizon line to best convey the majesty and grandeur of our Alpine panoramas.
