Landscape with Flock

Oil on panel, canvas-covered on the reverse. Signed lower left. Born in Turin, Vittorio Cajani was a talented painter and illustrator of figurative works and scenes of everyday life, especially those of the wealthy bourgeoisie of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with a particular passion for horses. Here, instead, is a glimpse of a winter landscape, with a flock of sheep passing along the path that runs through the small village, rendered in his signature style, characterized by broad brushstrokes and textured color. The work is presented in a wooden frame from the first half of the 20th century.

Self-portrait

Pen on paper. Signed and dated lower right; title on the left. On the back is a dedication signed by his son Gian Maria Arata, dated 2000. Francesco Arata, originally from Cremona, was primarily a landscape painter who straddled the boundary between classicism and innovation. His work includes numerous portraits, especially from his Milanese period, but here the artist expresses himself through a sketched ink drawing that emphasizes the facial features, dominating the rest of the head and body. Presented in a frame.

Saint Margaret Molina

Oil on panel. Signed lower right R.lo Pellegrini. It is probably a work by Romolo Pellegrini, who lived between the 19th and 20th centuries, an artist of landscapes and still lifes with delicate colors. Here we see a bright, flat countryside, with a flock of sheep grazing in the meadows, watched over by the shepherd. The work is presented in a contemporary frame, with missing parts.

Painting on canvas. Unlike most contemporary banners, this one is hand painted and not printed on canvas. The scene is divided into three parts, enclosed within a frame painted with floral motifs and separated by the design of small columns. In the center are depicted the Madonna with Jesus on the throne, on the sides two angels with the appearance of girls. The painting is then framed by a trimming.

The renowned Russian set designer, painter, and illustrator Nicola Benois, who was the chief set designer at Milan's Teatro Alla Scala from 1935, contributed some of his drawings in 1977 to illustrate Francesco de' Rogati's book, "La cucina dell' uomo solo" (SM editore, 1977). The original drawing, which later served as the cover illustration for the text, printed in a smaller format, is shown here. Framed.

This work is by the prominent Italian painter Remo Brindisi, whose painting, based on a descriptive and realistic approach in his early works, added expressionist nuances in his later works, giving rise to his own neo-figurative language. His work is always imbued with social and political intentions. Brindisi also worked as a sculptor, illustrator, writer, set designer, and cultural curator. His collaboration on the grandiose sets and costumes for the 1974 production of Aida at the Verona Arena was particularly noteworthy, a sketch of which is presented here. The work is presented framed.
