Additional Information
Artist: Giuseppe Ferraris (1791-1869)
Born in Turin in 1791, the son of an Austrian embassy employee, after moving to Milan with his family, Giuseppe Ferraris apprenticed with Luigi Manfredini and simultaneously studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. From a young age, he worked as an engraver at the Turin Mint; it was there that he took over as chief engraver, succeeding Amedeo Lavy. His work as an engraver is well known to collectors of the coinage of Charles Albert and Victor Emmanuel II, including the coinage of the Kingdom of Sardinia, the King Elect, and the Kingdom of Italy. He designed all of Charles Albert's gold and silver dies. He also engraved the dies for the new king, Victor Emmanuel II, both as King of Sardinia and as King of Italy. He died in 1869.Age: 19th Century / 1801 - 1900

The bas-relief is a method of sculpture that carves the marble, or the stone from a rocky surface or a square block. It means to contrast the floor and gives the feeling of seeing a painting in relief. The image portrayed is detected above the flat surface and background. For example, if a marble slab is thick 10 inches before starting to carve, the background, in the end, can often be 5 inches, and the embossed image will be thick up to 5 inches. In some works of sculpture, the figure may be much more prominent compared to the foreground, and in this case we speak of high relief. This technique allows you to see the image much more protruding by to see the subject without deformation to the variation of the angle of vision.Other customers have searched:
