Netherlands, Late XIX Century

Chest made of ebony veneered wood, the top contains a malachite plaque with brass border with central coat of arms, feet veneered in malachite. The plaque in the center is in embossed and gilded sheet metal. The heraldry represents a curtain surmounted by a crown in which two rampant, bi-caudal and crowned lions, facing the viewer, hold the coat of arms in which a similar lion holds a two-handed sword; underneath there is a chain with honors such as the iron crown. This is the coat of arms of Prince Willem Frederik of the Netherlands and then used with small variations also for the sovereign state of the Netherlands, in force since 1815 and with this connotation until 1907. The only difference is the absence of the cartouche with the writing "Je maintendrai ”. The object, as can be seen from the construction of the case and the already galvanic gilding, was made at the end of the 19th century, even if the malachite plate on the top, glued onto a 4 mm brass support, is recovered from a older object as evidenced by signs of other holes hidden by the current coat of arms.

Travel kit from the Charles The mercury easel mirror, fixed inside the lid by two movable tabs, once removed reveals a folding case for storing paper documents and correspondence. The sewing kit, housed in a removable cabaret with various compartments, is composed of scissors, needle needle, thimble, sewing punch, pencil case, glass bottle with cap, foldable graduated ruler, four thread winders, four spools and a pincushion cushion, the latter embellished with an embroidered floral composition. The gold tools are adorned with phytomorphic motifs chiseled and punched with the "ram's head" hallmark. Lace loop needle and thread winder (originally set of six) missing. The original label of the production house "Rue St. Honoré, N°.154 MAIRE Ft. de Necessaires DU ROI" is preserved on the back of the mirror. Attached is an appraisal issued in 1980 by the Parisian gallery “La Galerie des Laques”.

Northern Italy, XIX Century

A collection of wood samples from the Charles X era housed in a contemporary wooden case. The case is veneered in walnut burl, striped walnut, and maple, with the latter two types used for the geometric inlays, borders, and trim. The sample collection is arranged on a pair of overlapping shelves, each divided into thirty-five squares, for a total of seventy different types of wood.
