Piedmont XX Century

A central inlay of various woods depicts a rural scene with a lady and knight, a theme also found on the central drop-leaf door. This door, when opened, reveals an internal cabinet with five drawers and an open compartment. The base is completed by a pair of drawers and pulls that support the drop-leaf door, while the curved feet and wrought bronze escutcheons and handles add a touch of refinement.

The interior of the cups is entirely covered in mirror-polished gold, with baroque-style gilded feet and scroll-shaped handles. Manufacturer's mark under the base.

Oil on canvas. Central European school of the 18th century. The distinguished lady, who flaunts a dress enriched with bows and lace, is seated at her desk and holds a letter in her hand; at the bottom left an envelope bears traces of a name, unfortunately illegible, a device to make the portrayed character known. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in an early 1900s frame.
