Oil on canvas. English School, 19th century. The artist's name is written in pencil on the back, but it is undecipherable. A stream flows impetuously through a moorland of rocks and shrubs; in the background rises a mountain with a snow-capped peak (and perhaps a crater?). The painting has slight paint loss. The landscape depicts a verdant valley, with pastures and a small lake, nestled in a mountain range reminiscent of the Alps. In the foreground, a group of shepherds in traditional Northern European costumes are sitting, resting and enjoying a snack. The shepherd boy offers an apple from his basket to the child clinging to his mother's skirts. The scene is serene and peaceful, the colors soothing. Framed in period style.

The paintings of Franke, an artist of Polish origin who trained and lived in Munich, are characterized by genre scenes, eighteenth-century settings, and Oriental subjects. They are all characterized by lively movement and color, extremely lively scenes with figures frozen in curious, almost exaggerated poses. In this painting, the man, elegantly dressed with a frock coat and wig, leans inelegantly against the table, intent on reading, a pencil in his mouth. His brightly colored figure emerges from the shadowy surroundings—a study. The work is presented in an early 20th-century frame.

Filippo Marsigli, a well-known Neapolitan painter and fresco artist, contributed to the frescoes on the choir stalls in the apse of the new Cathedral of Caserta in 1842. In a resting place, a group of soldiers, having laid aside their armor and weapons, are playing dice on a drum, with an elegant gentleman in red challenging them. Thimble painting is an identical version by Robert Alexander Hillingford (1828-1904), a British painter of historical scenes, often depicting military life. The painting has been restored in the past. It is presented in a mid-20th-century frame.

The Announcement of Defeat at Waterloo

Oil painting on canvas. French school of the 19th century. The scene, set in the poor bedroom of an elderly war veteran, who is crying in his bed, sees his family telling him the sad news of the defeat at Waterloo, as can be deduced from the sheet of newspaper in the woman's hands, on which the name of the historic location where Napoleon Bonaparte was definitively defeated. The canvas shows signs of previous restorations, in particular the patch corresponding to the female figure is clearly visible. It is presented in an early 20th century setting.

Oil on panel. Signed lower right. Pietro Scoppetta, an exponent of late 19th-century Neapolitan painting, was deeply influenced by Impressionism, as is evident in this portrait, which focuses entirely on nuanced colors, in the range of browns and contrasting light. The work is presented in an adapted and regilded early 20th-century frame.

Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. A work by the French artist Germain Paget, who created several portraits, mostly of gentlemen from his hometown. The painting has slight paint loss; there are some patches on the back. It is presented in a period frame.

Courtship Scene

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. In the scene, set outside a mountain farmhouse, a young man in traditional costume courts the girl who is drawing water from the fountain, while a little girl watches them curiously. The Chioggia artist Achille Brusamini Naccari painted several genre scenes of popular taste, with figures in traditional costume, as well as costume scenes from Venetian capriccios or portraits. The work is presented in a golden frame from the early 1900s.

Oil on canvas. It probably depicts a tragic anti-Semitic event. On the right, a wounded soldier in Russian uniform is witnessing the dramatic scene of a slaughtered family while the rabbi is preying for them. The broken window and the upside down drawers make clear that the killers broke into the house. On the left of the mirror, there is a Jewish writing that may suggest the location. The word may be translated as 'Ciro' and may be referring to the areas of Georgia and Azerbaijan near the Kura (river flowing from Turkey to the Caspian Sea, known as 'Ciro' in 1800s). The painting, restored and relined, is presented in a frame of the 1800s.
