Additional Information

Artist: Bruno Cassinari (1912-1992)

Bruno Cassinari, born in Paicenza in 1912, is one of the leading exponents of the Corrente group. His expressionist art, with cubist influences, is sometimes aggressive, with a strong informative intent and political and social commitment, in open contrast with the Italian twentieth century. Having graduated from the Brera Academy under the guidance of maestro Aldo Carpi, in 1938 he founded the Corrente group with Treccani, Morlotti, Guttuso, Birolli and De Grada. With his companions in the movement he went to Paris where he met and was influenced by Picasso's Cubism. He met Braque and Chagall in Antibes, where he moved and opened a studio in 1949 and in 1955 he was already mentioned in Lionello Venturi's "Commentaries". In the 1960s he developed an intimate and personal, almost poetic realism, represented through new themes: flowers, storms and pomegranates. Cassinari achieved enormous public and critical success, so much so that he lived his life traveling to exhibit his works in countless Italian and foreign cities, museums and galleries (Venice, Piacenza, Florence, Milan, Rome, Palermo, Turin, Brescia) (Paris, Lausanne, New York, London, Munich, Berlin, Caracas, Buenos Aires); he will be the protagonist of the major contemporary art exhibitions (Venice Biennale, Rome Quadrennial) and awarded various prizes (Littoriali Prize, Bergamo Prize, City of Alessandria Prize, Grand Prize of Italian Painting). Cassinari died in Milan in 1992.
