Description : Madonna del Divino Amore
Oil painting on canvas. It is a beautiful copy from the "Madonna of Divine Love" painted in 1517 by Raphael and workshop, now kept at the National Museum of Capodimonte. Compared to the original, on board, the canvas is slightly smaller, about 10 centimeters, on both sides. In the Holy Family, together with Mary and Child Jesus, St. John and St. Anne appear (according to some scholars it would be instead of St. Elizabeth), with St. Joseph assisting in the background. The group is composed according to an innovative diagonal arrangement, hinged on the left leg of Mary, along which the face of Mary, of Jesus and of St. John are aligned; Jesus is reaching out to the Cross supported by the other child, thus reiterating his acceptance of the destiny of the Cross. The present but marginal figure of Joseph reaffirms his role of protector of the Holy Family. The painting is presented in a coeval golden frame.
